  • Gain employability skills
  • To grow confidence
  • Fill spare time
  • A passion for the cause or charity
  • As part of a college course (a new expectation on some courses)
  • Combat loneliness, or theirs of others
  • Share knowledge or experience (in retirement or to benefit others)

A quote from a colleague:

"As a member of staff, I find having volunteers a real benefit to our tenants. It gives them a real boost to have people in to help them/join in with them doing different activities or coffee mornings especially ones that sing or do music for them. They like to see different faces and they create good bonds with the tenants. All the volunteers we have are really interactive and contribute so much to the wellbeing of our tenants. We love having the volunteers in as really boosts everyone’s mood."

Good News Stories!

Here are some stories from our volunteers, please share your stories with us by commenting.

John

Hilary

"Since my childhood days I have enjoyed helping and caring for people.

On retiring from my workplace as a nursery nurse, I still wanted to be actively involved in the local community.

I found my perfect role here and my life has been enriched by so many wonderful interesting folk who have amazing stories to tell of their life experiences. They have lived through the tough times of war and of having less support systems available for health and finances. They deserve our love, admiration, respect, kindness and care, particularly at the later part of their lives.

Serving teas, coffees and refreshments each week with cheerful chatty exchanges, listening ears and helping to assist in various ways is very satisfying for me. It's a good feeling to know one has made a difference to brighten up and ease another person's life.

For over 20 years I have made many, many special relationships with the lovely residents must have also made, many, many thousands of cups of tea and coffee, I just keep coming back to spend more time with those who have made it their home and make them even more cups of tea and coffee!"
